California-based plus-size fashion brand Torrid will make its international debut at the Toronto Eaton Centre in Canada.
Torrid will open its first Canadian store in Toronto next week in an apparel market that is still sorely underserved for the overweight and obese.
Torrid has been selling edgy plus-size fashion in the U.S. since 2011. A sizing category 12 to 28 known for a paucity of apparel options in Canada relative to demographic trends. With about 290 U.S. stores, its first international location will open at the Toronto Eaton Centre on Sept. 1. The retailer plans to launch three additional locations in Toronto later this fall.
"We have a robust online business there, and it makes perfect sense for our first international store to open in Toronto," said CEO Lisa Harper. The company currently ships to more than 150 countries and says it has a "significant online customer base in Canada."
