The brand new wing at Polo Park mall was opened to the public for the first time on Wednesday.
The opening of stores such as Nine West, The Disney Store, Thomas Sabo and Fossil, along with others, opened at 10 a.m after hundreds had waited outside to get in.
A total of 23 stores will open over the next 12 months, with 17 already open for business.
The new wing was placed on the second floor where Zellers department store previously operated, between The Bay and the centre court of the mall.
This recent opening forms part of a $49m redevelopment plan for the center. The number of full-time and part-time jobs created by the expansion received praise from St James MLA, Deanne Crothers. She mentioned that St James has undergone many major improvements over the past few years, with several hotels opening, the airport being expanded and a batch of new retail options. She is hoping that this expansion will attract shoppers from other areas to the province of Manitoba.
This was a debut store opening for Saje, Journey’s, Watch it!, Fossil, Thomas Sabo and Nine West. Other stores included Bench, Lids, Pandora, Tommy Gun’s and Swarovski. However, the busiest store was definitely Disney, with several shoppers having waited five years for the return of the store.
