Simon has announced the completion of its massive expansion project at the King of Prussia mall in Pennsylvania. The company broke ground on the project back in the summer of 2014, and the 155,000 square foot expansion has significantly increased the footprint of one of the Unites States top retail destinations.
"Today is a milestone day for Simon. King of Prussia has reached new heights with the completion of its 155,000-square-foot expansion. Customers now have greater access to the best names in retail and dining in one, seamless shopping environment," said Rick Sokolov, President and COO of Simon.
All told, the project added 50 new dining and retail storefronts while expanding the mall’s total footprint to 2.9 million square feet. The expansion centered around a multi-level enclosed connection for the mall’s plaza and court sections. Previously, the five-anchor plaza and two-anchor court were separated by a roadway.
Some of the new stores that have officially opened as part of the expansion are Club Monaco, Gap, Jimmy Choo, MCM and Superdry. New dining options include Hai Street Kitchen and Shake Shack, and even more exciting retail and dining destinations are scheduled to open either later this year or in early 2017. Those names include American Girl, Gucci, Teavana and The Fat Ham.
As part of the expansion project, existing King of Prussia brands such as Burberry and Louis Vuitton relocated and expanded their footprints to create flagship locations. Additionally, visitors to the King of Prussia mall will have access to a wealth of enhanced amenities that include a concierge-level guest service center, valet service, and a new, state-of-the-art parking garage. One of the mall’s centerpieces is the branded dining experience known as Savor King of Prussia, which features numerous popular regional eateries, as well as national favorites.
This expansion completes one of the biggest projects in the Simon pipeline, but it’s far from the only one that the shopping mall giant has underway. The company currently has redevelopment and expansion projects underway at 33 of its properties across Europe and the United States.
Judging by the success of the expansion projects at one of its signature properties, consumers in those locales are in for a big treat once construction is wrapped on those projects.
