The partnership will include a special collection of clothing under the brand YEEZY Gap. The launch of sales in Gap stores and online will start in 2021, though the exact release date is not yet known.
"Kanye West is ready to blow up modern retailing by introducing its YEEZY brand to millions of customers around the world through its announced partnership with the iconic and internationally recognized Gap brand today," the press release says.
Combining Kanye West with Gap to launch a new clothing brand is a logical continuation of their partnership. It was noted earlier that Kanye worked at one of the American brand stores in Chicago.
"We are delighted to welcome Kanye to the Gap family as a creative 'visionary' who builds on the aesthetics and success of his YEEZY brand and takes this partnership to the next level," commented Mark Breitbard, Global Head of Gap Brand.
Through this partnership, Yeezy Design Studio will create a new line of men's, women's, and children's clothing at affordable prices, with a range of options and accessories. West's design vision will be reflected in YEEZY Gap's unique collections in physical stores and through the brand's digital channels.
Kanye West retains full control of YEEZY brand, which is estimated at $2.9 billion as of April 2020. The partnership with Gap will allow the company to expand its clothing and footwear business, as well as expand into the retail space.
