ILO and H&M agreement signed

ILO and H&M have signed a special agreement on sustainable global supply chains, which will look at skills development, social partnering, wages and industrial relations.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) and H&M have signed a special agreement on sustainable global supply chains, which will look at skills development, social partnering, wages and industrial relations.

The partnership between H&M and the ILO goes back to 2001, when H&M signed up for the ILO Better Factories program in Cambodia.

The new venture will promote a range of activities in a bid to strengthen the sustainability work in the supply chain linked to H&M.  These activities will be done at the enterprise, national and global level.  The partnership is set to create a positive model for others and create a global group to promote the Decent Work Agenda of the ILO.
Guy Ryder, the Director-General at ILO, said that issues faced in the garment industry are systemic and need action to help in the development of suitable industrial relations and to promote respect of the international labor standards.  He said there is an urgent requirement to form collaborations with companies that offer experience in these fields.

The ILO has created a tripartite structure with 185 countries "worker"s organizations, "employers" organizations and governments.
