The Dubai Mall’s Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo has unveiled King Croc, one of the largest reptiles in the world.
King Croc, along with his female mate of 20 years, now lives in a special enclosure in the zoo which is a replica of their natural environment. King Croc is 40 years old, measures more than five metres and weighs more than 750kg. He could potentially grow bigger over the next fifty years of his expected life term.
It is estimated that his bite force is around 3700 pounds per square inch - the highest for any animal. His head weights in excess of 150kg and his 60 teeth are the size of an average human index finger.
He was transferred to Dubai from Australia where he has lived since 1996. After the display and staff quality was reviewed, the transfer was made possible by a partnership between the government authorities of Australia and the zoo.
The zoo is set to introduce an educational programme for schools, approved by the Ministry of Education, and will include school visits as part of the curriculum.
It has been said that King Croc’s arrival brings a new learning experience for those who visit the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.
