Dick's is closing 11 Moosejaw stores

Just a few months after acquiring the company from Walmart.

Dick's Sporting Goods is set to close 11 out of 14 Moosejaw stores, just a few months after acquiring the company from Walmart. The list of closures includes seven stores in Michigan and one each in Chicago, Olathe, Kansas, Boulder, Colorado, and Kansas City, Missouri. The remaining three Moosejaw stores will continue operating in Salt Lake City, Bentonville, Arkansas, and Birmingham, Michigan.

These store closures are slated to occur by February of next year, along with the closure of Moosejaw's headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. This move is part of Dick's strategy to integrate its Moosejaw and Public Lands divisions under a single team.

After announcing its intention to acquire Moosejaw in February, Dick's Sporting Goods is consolidating its two outdoor retail divisions to streamline operations.

"After careful review of our outdoor specialty business, we have decided to form one team to support Public Lands and Moosejaw operations. The team will be based at Public Lands’ headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA," a Dick’s Sporting Goods spokesperson said.

"This move supports our business optimization efforts and will allow us to operate more efficiently, quickly leverage best practices across our outdoor business and drive our long-term success. We look forward to continuing to provide outdoor enthusiasts great gear and service on Moosejaw.com, PublicLands.com and at Moosejaw and Public Lands retail locations."
