The Westford Oxford Alliance has confirmed the appointment of the contractor for the Westgate Oxford leisure and retail development.
Construction is due to commence in spring of 2015.
After this announcement, it was confirmed that Chapman Taylor would support Laing O’Rourke as the Delivery Architect for the construction phase, which are due to be completed during the autumn of 2017.
This new 74300m² leisure and retail venture will become the new shopping destination in Oxford city center. The development will be housed in four separate blocks, surrounded by new public spaces and routes. The development will include more than 100 new stores, boutique cinema, 25 cafes, restaurants and dining facilities on the rooftop.
Chapman Taylor’s director, Robin Pinfield, expressed the company’s delight at the partnership with the Westgate Oxford Alliance on this project. The company has previously worked with The Crown Estate and Land Securities on other developments within the UK and has the expertise and experience to add value to this particular project.
The project is expected to create up to 1000 construction jobs and upon completion, 3400 retail jobs. This announcement comes after more than four years spent on preparation, public consultation and approval by the Oxford City Council.
