It will create a new waterfront promenade, 'restaurant tower' and the city's first skate park.

The owner of the mall, National Investment Corporation (NIC), has announced a Dh3 billion-plus project to expand and upgrade Marina Mall beside plans to develop a stunning new waterfront promenade.
NIC will initiate work on the 300,000 sqm expansion in the second half of 2018, while a range of upgrades to the mall's facilities will begin in early 2018. In addition to the extension, the company has revealed plans for a new promenade, Marina Walk, allowing 546 meters of prime waterfront views and 123,000 sqm of exciting leisure and entertainment activities aimed at all ages in the neighborhood, including Abu Dhabi's first skate park.
Marina Walk's 19,500 sqm of Gross Leasable Area (GLA) will also be home to a new dining precinct, boasting a restaurant tower that offers the Abu Dhabi community, and the area's vast tourist population, an even higher overall experience at its unique location facing the Arabian Gulf.
Work on the prestigious promenade will also begin in the second half of 2018 and will concentrate on outdoor experiences, involving a 15,000 sqm of open park spaces for community-led events, various water features, three helicopter pads and 900 additional parking lots.
The Marina Mall extension will begin with the South Block that will be home to a plethora of globally recognized brands, offering a variety of luxury and high-end retail, dining facilities, and new residential tower.
During the North Block will further build on the mall's exciting portfolio of amusement attractions that already houses a bowling alley, Magic Planet, a 9-screen VOX cinema, and Bounce Abu Dhabi, the Middle East's most significant indoor trampoline place.
In addition to the expansion programs, existing features within the modern mall will also be upgraded, including introducing LED screens, renovating contemporary storefront fixtures to open up space, as well as improving the luxury area and the main entrance.
Already a landmark of the emirate, the development project will show Marina Mall play a more leading role in the government's drive towards the Abu Dhabi Plan, helping to further increase the capital's major economic sectors, including tourism, retail, and hospitality.
