Google’s pop-up shop opened in Manhattan

You can’t buy anything at Google’s pop-up shop in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, but the store still has almost 100 products. More than twenty people were on hand when the store first opened to give consumers a chance to experience Google’s innovative products without the pressure of making a buying decision. A dazzling visual experience greets visitors to the store who can learn about the new Pixel phone from the Pixel wall with colorful boxes displaying images that represent a smartphone screen.



Google underscores the utility of the Pixel in its spacious photosphere where people can learn how to use the intelligent Google Photos app. Google workers in the store introduce visitors to the concept of tag-less photo searches. Three Pixel phones on display give users a chance to change photos and cycle through the various search functions of Google Photos. 

A special demo area demonstrates the Pixel’s ability to capture images in low-light settings. Curtains darken the area where Google workers take your photograph with a Pixel underneath intriguing LED lights. Customers can visit the demo table to put their hands on the Pixel phone and try many of its features. The noisy environment, however, makes the Google Assistant app difficult to try. Nevertheless, the store offers much more than an introduction to the latest Google smartphone. 


Visitors to the pop-up store give rave reviews of its Google Home and Daydream displays. When entering the Daydream section, visitors enjoy a breathtaking 180-degree virtual forest that mimics Daydream’s home screen, at least until they close their eyes for the actual presentation. A separate section of the store features an intricate display that uses a mock-up kitchen and living room that makes optimal use of Google Home and WiFi product lines. 

Google’s living room features a Chromecast Ultra connected to a 4K HDTV, so people can experience firsthand the power of the devices. As people stroll through the exhibit, they can ask Google Home to do things based on posted suggestions. They can change the lighting, play videos and playlists and perform other tasks.

You’ll find the store at 96 Spring St. Although the store doesn’t sell Google products, its staffers can direct you to an appropriate retailer where you can buy the items you want.
