The oldest men's clothier chain in the United States, Brooks Brothers is headquartered on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. Brooks Brothers were founded in 1818 as a family business. Since 2001, Brooks Brothers has been privately owned by Retail Brand Alliance. Besides its extensive stock of clothing and accessories for the well-dressed man, Brooks Brothers now have to clothe for women. There are 210 Brooks Brothers’ stores in the United States and 70 located in other countries. Brooks Brothers’ flagship stores are located in Manhattan, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and Beverly Hills.

Relying almost solely on imported clothing Originally, Brooks Brothers now carries suits, sports coats, shirts, and some accessories manufactured in the United States.The "1818" line of mid-priced suits are produced at Brooks Brothers' Southwick plant in Haverhill, Massachusetts while Brooks Brothers’ higher-end label, the Golden Fleece, has hand-tailored manufactured in the United States.Brooks Brothers’famous silk neckties are woven in England or Italy but cut and piled at the Brooks Brothers’ tie factory in Long Island City, New York. Shirts are manufactured in Garland, North Carolina. 

Besides clothing and accessories, Brooks sells a series of books on etiquette and manners for ladies and gentlemen.
