Mall Brings Employment Opportunities
After months of hard work and ongoing public anticipation, the Hemmingway Mall will swing open its doors. A considerable accomplishment for the region, it was built in a mere 24 months by Billion Construction.
The mall’s completion, which will include 220 stores, will mean many new jobs being created – a stunning 3,000 permanent jobs and 5,000 temporary positions are figures that have been thrown out. The significance of this cannot be underestimated in light of current job losses experienced by so many throughout South Africa and abroad.
However, some aren’t happy, saying that the new mall will drain other malls in the region of their tenants. Unfortunately, there is some merit to this concern, but others say it is of little consequence, since each mall has the opportunity to brand itself in a particular light.
In addition, many believe that now is the time when businesses and entrepreneurs should be looking at opportunities to position themselves within the other malls, as they will be in a strong position to negotiate as centre managements seek to fill floor space.
