Christmas is Already Here for One Mall

October 11, 2009

The John Lewis department store at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol isn’t wasting any time. Christmas is only two and half months away, and the 100 foot tall Christmas decorations are already in place at the atrium.

This is one of the country’s largest shopping malls. Ropes were hung from a gantry and decorations tied to them before they were hauled up. Six Christmas trees have also been placed on the floor. The display took two hours to install between the store’s escalators in The Mall.

John Lewis customer service manager Tim Johnston said: “It’s very much a corporate image across the stores. The colour scheme runs through every branch. We wanted to reflect a homely, British family Christmas. People are fed up with bad news.

When challenged on the possibility that erecting these decorations was a tad too early, Mr. Johnston claimed they put them up the same time every year. His defence? People are thinking about Christmas much earlier.

Well, then, how about starting in August?
