Wild Popularity of Malls in Turkey

September 10, 2009

Turkey, known for its full-on investments in new shopping mall constructions, is right on track with that goal. Some 41 shopping malls are expected to open their doors by the end of the year, 17 of them in Istanbul. It’s full speed ahead.

Recent complaints over high rent prices and declining turnover, with storeowners pulling down their shutters in protest, have apparently not been enough to lessen the enthusiasm over new shopping malls. Eastern Turkey welcomed three new shopping malls during the first four months of the year. Istanbul is once again hugely popular. Main actors of the shopping craze in Istanbul will get a chance to explore 17 new shopping malls by the end of the year. The city is already home to 76 shopping malls.

As well, six new shopping malls are expected to open their doors in the capital city of Ankara by the end of this year. İzmit will welcome three new shopping malls while Kahramanmaraş and Mersin will welcome two.
