The Lengths We Go To For Discounts at Malls
Calgary saw a huge opening for its new mega-mall, CrossIron Mills. The mall, which is one million square feet with space for 200 stores, opened its doors at 10am Wednesday in Balzac, and saw over 20,000 people before Noon.
That would make sense, given that people started lining up outside the building as early as 5am to take advantage of special deals. There were also a few incidents resulting from people competing to get in. The RCMP are investigating an incident in which a female driver tried to park in a stall at the mall, but was confronted by a pedestrian trying to hold that space for another vehicle.
And, as ridiculous as it sounds, police also detained two men in a vehicle who pointed what ended up being a plastic replica gun at another vehicle entering the mall area.
CrossIron Mills is the first indoor shopping centre to open in Alberta in 20 years.
