Students Take Advantage of Mall Discounts

August 15, 2009

Shopping malls continue to be wildly popular with students In Mumbai, despite the outbreak of the Swine flu. On Friday, thousands of families ventured off to local malls to make it in time for the festive discounts. With the multiplexes shut, shopping malls offered a very handy alternative.

Customers at Lower Parel’s High Street Phoenix were greeted with a four-foot tall poster that read, “Play it safe, take necessary precautions”, while listing the swine flu dos and don’ts. TOI visited City Centre (Mumbai Central), High Street Phoenix (Lower Parel), Atria (Worli), SoBo Central (Haji Ali), Raghuleela Mall (Kandivli), Inorbit Mall and Hypercity (Malad), Oberoi Mall (Goregaon), R-City Mall (Ghatkopar) and CineMax and Eternity Mall (Thane). Few were masked.

College students made the best of their “holidays”. After receiving an SMS advertisement about the biggest sale in town from a prominent fashion outlet, a group of students from St Andrews College in Bandra decided to take advantage of their free time by drinking in discounts.
