New Delhi Mall Threatened
An odd feeling permeates the Lajpat Nagar market these days. The popular 3Cs Mall and surrounding area has been turned into a fortress after the Delhi Police received security threats that the building would be blown up in the next couple of weeks.
According to sources with the Southeast district police, they were notified by intelligence agencies about a possible threat to the mall several days ago. When the local police found out, they cordoned off the entire market.
Intelligence agencies reportedly told the cops that the Army had recovered a sketch of the mall from a few terrorists arrested by it recently. Their interrogation revealed the threat to mall safety.
Police sources indicated present security arrangements for the mall were under the direct supervision of an assistant commissioner of police. A senior officer is present at the site round the clock.
Shopkeepers, of course, are concerned, but apparently fool-proof security has been in place for two days now. Local shopkeepers have said they have never seen such a heavy policy presence at the mall this time of year.
