China and It’s Great “Mall”
Unlike the North American or British economies, China has found itself in the middle of a massive retail revolution as mega-malls are appearing in main centers. These shopping metropolises’ are equally appealing to big spenders and bargain hunters that truly are worth the deal. Beijing’s New Yansha Mall is the world’s biggest mall, shadowing that of West Edmonton Mall, boasting six floors, 1000 stores, 100 restaurants and 230 escalators.
Traveling around China is like shopping in on great shopping mall. Regardless of where you are, there will be a great shopping center or a marketplace somewhere nearby. Instead of looking for shopping bargains, the bargains come find you!
Vendor stalls are like pit-stops for fast food of every imaginable kind from sweet treats to the unthinkable delicacy such as the stringer off a scorpion’s tail or a starfish to take home as a family treat.
One of the secrets to shopping in China is to learn the phrase “Bu Xie Xie”, pronounced “Boo Sheyah Sheyah” which literally means “no thank you”, which at times vendors interpret as “no, I don’t want it, but if you try again really aggressively I might just weaken”. It’s no wonder why many travelers consider China one great mall.
